The Literacy Month enters its second week and we can already look back on seven days of exciting reading activities. The theme of the reading month this year is "Read on accadis".
Read, read, read for one month
For four weeks, accadis ISB students devote themselves to the world of reading with a multi-faceted program. We encourage them to become lifelong literature lovers. They shall not only consume books, but also reflect on what they have read. In this way, we promote their reading and writing skills as well as their ability to think outside the box. In order to promote skills in two languages at the same time, the activities are integrated into both English and German lessons.
Colorful parade
Dressed up as their favorite book characters, the accadis ISB students opened the Literacy Month on 11 March 2019. They brought the book in which their favorite character appears with them to introduce it to their classmates.
Well-visited Book Fair
At the accadis ISB Book Fair, the students already bought nearly all book on the first day, so that on the second day, only a few books were waiting for the young readers. The Parent Teacher Association PTA is pleased about 350 English and about 90 German sold books. With the profit the PTA will buy new books for the school library.
Further reading adventures
We are looking forward to the exciting reading activities of the coming days. The children's book authors Corinna Harder and Sabine Kranz will read for the accadis ISB students and will discuss their stories with them.
The first and second grade students will accompany the “Reading Raven” during a nationwide reading promotion campaign in an exciting adventure. They will solve puzzles and will bring in their first writing knowledge in a reader writing competition.
Exciting Theater and Book Blind Dates
This year again, Major Mustard, one of Britain's leading solo puppeteers, will transform the accadis ISB music room into an in-house theater where he will thrill his audience with age-appropriate animal or travel stories.
The Secondary School students will have "blind dates" with books. In the library, they will discover new genres by reading books on which all references to the content have been made unrecognisable.
