Floating Sports Hall Opens: accadis Bildung Celebrates New Sports Center

accadis bildung sports centerWith a festive opening ceremony, accadis Bildung officially inaugurated its new Sports Center in Bad Homburg today. Developed in close cooperation with the City of Bad Homburg, the modern single-court sports hall stands out for its exceptional architectural concept: the hall appears to “float” on stilts above the existing outdoor sports field.

A Place for Movement, Education, and Community

The new building complements the existing accadis sports hall at the SÜDCAMPUS and responds to the growing demand resulting from increasing student numbers. At the same time, local sports clubs in Bad Homburg will benefit from additional training opportunities.

Architecture & Project Partners

The project was planned and realized by BGF+ Architekten Part GmbB from Wiesbaden, who were also responsible for the architectural design. They were supported by an experienced team of specialist planners, including GTA Gesellschaft für technische Anlagen mbH (Mainz), Thüringer Gesundheitstechnik GmbH (Meiningen), and Ingenieurbüro Unverzagt (Wiesbaden). Construction was carried out by general contractor Albert Weil AG from Limburg an der Lahn.

A Ceremonial Opening with Symbolic Meaning

A particularly emotional moment marked the beginning of the event: 36 students from Grades 5A and 5B entered the new sports hall carrying 72 flags, representing the international diversity of accadis Bildung. This was followed by the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, formally opening the hall.

accadis Bildung welcomed numerous guests from politics, business, education, and sports, including Mayor Alexander Hetjes and former professional basketball player Marco Völler of the Frankfurt Skyliners. Music, dance performances, and a panel discussion with those involved in the project highlighted the celebratory atmosphere of the event.

Sporting Highlight: Baskets for a Good Cause

A special sporting and emotional highlight was the charity initiative “Baskets for a Good Cause,” which focused on teamwork, speed, and accuracy. Under the guidance of Marco Völler, participants received coaching before competing together for five minutes to score as many baskets as possible.

Participants included Prof. Florian Pfeffel (President of accadis Hochschule), Mayor Alexander Hetjes, Oliver Klink (Vorstandsvorsitzender Taunus Sparkasse), Maximilian Müllerleile (Head of School, accadis International School), Klaus Rohletter (Vorstandsvorsitzender Albert Weil AG), as well as a representative from BGF+ Architekten, one female student, and one male student. Together, they scored a total of 45 baskets, raising €4,500 in donations. This amount was increased to €10,000 by Taunus Sparkasse and the construction company Albert Weil. The proceeds will support the accadis Bildungswald and InSL e.V., a non-profit organization dedicated to language education and supported regionally by Taunus Sparkasse.

A Joint Project with Sustainable Impact

“This hall is more than just a building – it is a place for connection, movement, and community,” said Prof. Christoph Kexel, Managing Director of accadis Bildung. Mayor Alexander Hetjes also emphasized the value for the city: “The accadis Sports Center is an asset for Bad Homburg – for young people, for sports clubs, and for our local sports infrastructure.”

Following the official program, guests had the opportunity to exchange ideas and tour the new facility. The sports hall now represents another key element of accadis Bildung’s educational and sports infrastructure in Bad Homburg.
