Our students have recently completed an eventful week filled with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Following the theme of "Connections," they developed their scientific skills and shared them within the school community, focusing on practical application and experimentation.
Generating enthusiasm for science and technology
Science and technology play a crucial role in our modern world. They drive innovations that improve our daily lives: From medical breakthroughs to environmentally friendly technologies. Science relies on dedicated young scientists, which is why encouraging children's interest in these fields is so important. Practical and engaging projects serve to arouse students' curiosity and a positive image of these subject areas should already be conveyed at school.
At accadis ISB, a special emphasis is placed on research during STEM week. During this week, it is all about the subjects science, technology, engineering and mathematics in Elementary and Secondary School.
Topics during STEM week
Like scientists in the professional world, students worked on projects, integrating knowledge and skills from different scientific disciplines in order to solve problems in the week before the autumn break. All activities took place during regular school hours and the students were given plenty of time to discover and develop joy in science.
Each year group had its own thematic focus, which they researched throughout the week:
- Primary: How humans and animals communicate
- Grade 1: Friction
- Grade 2: Bridges
- Grade 3: Communication technology
- Grade 4: Code breaking
- Grade 5: How plants grow
- Grade 6: Robotics
- Grade 7: Camera obscura
- Grade 8: Gliders
- Grade 9: Bridges
Once again, it was wonderful to see the accadis ISB students turning into young scientists who tinkered, coded, experimented and explored with great enthusiasm.
